Tumblebooks FUN

Check out what's new at the Southern Pines Public Library:    TumbleBooks!

Designed for everyone from infants to teenagers, this new form of “entertainment-education” helps kids discover the joy of reading by introducing books in a format they love - electronic story books. Tumblebooks combines the tradition of a good storyline with animation, sound, music, and narration in different formats: story books, online audio books, interactive games, puzzles, and quizzes. Age-appropriate selections range from easy readers to chapter books, young adult selections, non-fiction titles, Spanish and French language learners, and 60 foreign language titles in Spanish, French, Russian, and Chinese. Special Events

Annual Library Holiday Program
Children ages toddler to third grade and their parents are invited to the library's annual Holiday Program (PDF) on December 6, 2011 at 7:00pm. Celebrate the season with a puppet show, crafts, and songs!

Week of the Young Child
This week celebrates and honors young children and thanks teachers and all those who make a differnce in young children's lives. The theme for WOYC 2010 was "Early Years Are Learning Years." On Thursday, April 14, 2011, from 5:30-6:30 pm the library celebrated WOYC with a Family Fun Night (PDF). 

4th Annual Dia de los Ninos/Dia de los Libros Celebration 
Dia is an annual and national celebration that promotes literacy and the importance of linking children to books, languages, and cultures. The library will celebrate Dia on Wednesday, April 27, from 3:30-4:00pm. Come for a multicultural story time, music, and fun!

Sunday Afternoon at the Movie (Grades 3-5)
Kids and their parents are invited to enjoy free afternoon movies. BYOP (Bring Your Own Pillow) if you want to get comfy, and we'll provide the popcorn! Movies are presented on selected Sunday afternoons from 2:30-4:30pm. Please call the library for movie titles at 692-8235.

On Sunday, January 8, 2012 kids in grades K-2 and their parents are invited to a G-rated feature based on the stories of author A. A. Milne.  This all-new movie version reunites audiences with the "bear of very little brain" and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Roo, and Eeyore.

On Sunday, November 6, 2011 the library will present a movie about a nine-year-old boy who upset when he is told to take out the trash and to eat his broccoli. The boy finds out just how much he needs a mom when his is nabbed by Martians! This PG-rated, animated feature is based on the book by Berkeley Breathed. 

On Sunday, September 11, 2011, the library will present a movie about the adventures of a kid noone would call brave and his older brother. Watch as their parents' try to make them have a closer relationship.

On Sunday May 8, 2011, the library presented a tale where a girl lets her hair all the way down. It's hard not to get tangled up in this story.

On Sunday, March 13, 2011, the library presented a magical adventure movie based on a popular children's novel.

On Sunday, January 9, 2011 the library presented a movie about guardian owls.

On Sunday, November 7, 2010 the library presented a movie about a boy and his dragon.

On Sunday, September 12, 2010 the library presented a film about a kid that no one would call brave.

On Sunday, July 25, 2010 the library presented a movie that takes an animated behind the scenes look at the high-octane world of competitive penguin surfing.

The library has compiled a list of movies (PDF) shown at previous "Afternoon at the Movies" programs. These DVD's are available for checkout at the library!
