Family Fun Night

This new series for children in grades K-2 and their parents is designed to encourage joy in and enthusiasm for reading through stories, crafts, and fun activities on special themes.  It is held on selected evenings during the school year from 5:30 to 6:30pm. Friends of Southern Pines Public Library sponsor the series.

History came alive with North Carolina's most famous pirate! Blackbeard (PDF) sailed into the library on Wednesday, July 14, 2010.

The circus flowed on Wednesday, June 16, 2010. The entertainers from Flow Circus (PDF) shared amazing juggling, mystifying magic, and a fun time for the whole family!

It's sunny weather and flowers are blooming! Spring (PDF) is here and the celebration began on Thursday, April 15, 2010. Families enjoyed stories, songs, crafts, and dinner.

The Cats: Big and Small (PDF) came out to play on Thursday, February 18, 2010. Kids enjoyed stories, songs, crafts, and a fancy feast.

Those who wanted to break a world record came to the libray to participate in Read for the Record! (PDF) on Thursday, October 8, 2009. Thousands of children, parents, and teachers all over the globe read The Very Hungry Caterpillar on the same day. A craft and pizza dinner followed the story.

On Tuesday, July 21, 2009, the library presented "Birdman Dave" (PDF). Flocks of children came to the library for live birds and storytelling, and joined the feathered fun! ( http://www.birdmandave.com/ )

Families came to experience the creative side of another culture on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, as Family Fun Night presented "Salsa & Salsa" (PDF). They got “saucy” as they learned about salsa - the dance and the dip!

What do you want to be when you grow up? Family Fun Night presented "Community Helpers" (PDF) on Thursday, April 16, 2009. Families enjoyed songs, stories, crafts, and a lasagna and salad dinner!
