You have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of recreation activities. Take some time out for fun, fitness, and fellowship, developing new skills, renewing an old hobby, making new friends, and more. No invitation is needed and THE BENEFITS ARE ENDLESS!!! Put your name on the mailing list to receive up-to-date information on programs for adults age 55 and better. Details on programs listed, as well as new programs and trips, are described in the SENIOR CHALLENGE which is distributed monthly. Volunteering is a great way to learn about the Town and Programs offered through the senior division and the Recreation Department. Make new friends and have fun with us at the Douglass Community Center. Please call 692-7376 to register as a volunteer or just come by and pick up a calendar of events.

Senior Travel
Trips are the most famous activities we provide for our older adults. We enjoy different kinds of trips all over North Carolina and parts of South Carolina. Enjoy fun, fellowship and food!
Temple Theatre- CANCELLED
Celebrate the holiday season with friends, family and the Winter Wonderettes! Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Suzy and Missy as they throw a rockin' 60's party, featuring an assortment of festive tunes including Winter Wonderland, O Tannenbaum, Santa Baby, Jingle Bell Rock and many more! We will eat lunch at the Fairview Dairy Bar.

Canasta
Canasta is a matching game in which the object is to create melds of cards of the same rank and then go out by playing or discarding all cards in your hand.

We work on items for the Douglass Community Center activities. We would love to have you come and join our group! The group will assist in providing decorations for every season and occasion at the Douglass Community Center. The craft club paints, makes jewelry and decorations and more for free!! Senior Gym Time
Walking is one of the best methods of exercising. It helps burn calories, reduces the risk of developing or dying of heart disease, helps maintain healthy bones, controls blood pressure, etc. Come out and join the senior gym time and enjoy walking while meeting new people.

Fishing "NEW"
Grandkids coming and want to go fishing or you just decided it might be fun for a few hours but you don't have a rod or reel? Come by the Douglass Community Center Office and check out a Zebco 33 classic rod and reel. Must fill out registration form then a check out card will be issued. Bocce Ball
Visit the Douglass Community Center and enjoy this fun and fast-paced game with fellow participants. We play indoor bocce ball. Play begins every Friday.

Education
We offer education programs dedicated to older adults. These programs are designed to help educate and prepare older adults for certain issues.
Winter Storm Awareness
We have been lucky in the past when it comes to winter weather. However, when we do get hit is usually ends up being ice instead of snow. A representative from the local American Red Cross Chapter will present information on the importance of being aware of inclement weather and the dangers.
